SANY drilling rigs assist construction of largest steel plant in Vietnam

Currently, nearly 40 units SANY drilling rigs are working at a steel plant project in Quang Ngai Province, Vietnam.
 

 

Hoa Phat is the leading industrial manufacturing group in Vietnam and the largest steel producer in Southeast Asia. With a market capitalization of US$11 billion, Hoa Phat Group (HPG) ranks 15th of the Top 30 largest steel companies by market capitalization in the world.
 

 

Since the first quarter, Hoa Phat has started to build the second phase of the Hoa Phat Dung Quat Iron and Steel Production Complex that will increase the complex’s total capacity to 11 million tonnes per year once operations commence in 2024.
 

 

Due to the scheduled short construction period, at least 50 units drilling rigs were required for the project. Among them, 40 units were SANY’s, which were chosen for their comparatively better performance and shorter lead time. No delivery delays occurred in spite of the port and road lockdowns caused by the pandemic.  
 

The local rock stratum, mainly consisting of basalt and bluestone, features a rock strength of up to 130 MPa. SANY’s equipment offers the best solution available, with a high penetration drill bits and the maximum torque among competitor products to achieve a drilling speed of 80 cm/h and the intact removal of drill cores at a maximum diameter of 1,500 mm.
