June 9, 2023, Hubei, China, On May 30, Hubei Xiangyang - Dongfeng Cummins Engine Co., Ltd. completed the construction and commenced production of its new intelligent heavy-duty engine factory, marking the production of the legendary engine. The total investment in the heavy-duty engine factory amounts to 950 million yuan. It incorporates advanced digital intelligent technology, featuring automation, flexibility, digitization, and environmental friendliness. This state-of-the-art facility provides strong support for the diversified product portfolio of Dongfeng Cummins and meets the diverse individual needs of customers.
As the first joint venture between Cummins and Dongfeng dedicated to producing automotive engines in China, Dongfeng Cummins plays a vital role in meeting the diverse power requirements of the Chinese automotive market and serves as a cornerstone of Cummins' core business in China. The launch of the new intelligent heavy-duty engine production line signifies a breakthrough for Dongfeng Cummins in the fields of digitization and intelligent manufacturing, enabling them to serve customers with high-end capabilities more effectively and efficiently.

The new factory adopts advanced intelligent manufacturing technology, incorporating over 20 digitalized scenarios, including robot vision for ambiguous grasping, AI visual inspection, equipment condition monitoring and preventive maintenance, offline programming for paint spraying robots, real-time monitoring of tightening curves, and intelligent robot inspections. The production line consists of 28 fully automated workstations, with an additional 33 workstations planned, resulting in an automation rate of 50%.

In addition to the application of digital and automation technologies, the new factory also incorporates numerous "green intelligent manufacturing" practices, setting a benchmark for environmentally friendly production in the industry. For example, the intelligent logistics project utilizes AGV material delivery technology, achieving an 85% automatic delivery rate. The photovoltaic roof project, combined with efficient machine rooms and centralized control of public utilities, reduces energy consumption by 20%. The implementation of dry painting booths achieves zero water discharge and pollution.

While increasing production capacity, the integration of intelligent manufacturing technologies further enhances product quality. The introduction of new automation technologies and equipment provides more error prevention measures during the production process, ensuring superior and stable performance of the products, which supports customers in seizing opportunities in the fierce market competition.
