New energy tractors sales surge by 58% in April in China

May 25, 2023, China, In April, the sales of new energy tractors in China reached 1,005 units, representing a year-on-year increase of 57.52% but a slight decrease of 2.14% compared to the previous month. From January to April, cumulative sales of new energy tractors in China reached 3,294 units, a year-on-year growth of 0.18%.
In 2023, new energy tractors accounted for 48.5% of the new energy heavy-duty truck market with 3,294 units. New energy specialized vehicles reached sales of 1,848 units, while new energy dump trucks and cargo trucks recorded sales of 1,637 and 16 units, respectively.

In April, four companies, including Sany, XCMG, Yutong, and Farizon, surpassed the 100-unit mark in terms of new energy tractor sales. Specifically, Sany took the top spot with 267 units sold, followed by XCMG and Yutong with 130 and 114 units, respectively. Farizon achieved sales of 103 units, securing the fourth position. Dongfeng and Shaanxi Auto had stable sales, tying for the fifth position.

In terms of year-on-year growth, Yutong stood out with an impressive increase of 1,800% in April, leading the industry. Shaanxi Auto also performed well with a growth rate of 1,000%, surpassing last year's sales. Additionally, Foton, Dongfeng, Jiefang, and Sany all experienced significant year-on-year growth rates of 92.86%, 78.38%, 52.5%, and 59.88%, respectively. Among the top ten companies, eight, including XCMG and Sany, achieved year-on-year sales growth.

Regarding market share, Sany claimed the top position with a market share of 26.57%. Sany, Yutong, and Farizon all held market shares exceeding 10%, while Dongfeng, Shaanxi Auto, Beiben, and Jiefang had market shares close to or above 6%.

In terms of cumulative sales, XCMG and Sany surpassed 500 units of new energy tractors, with XCMG taking the lead with 577 units. Farizon closely followed with 430 units, securing the third position. Dongfeng ranked fourth with 356 units, with a significant gap in sales compared to the top three. Beiben surpassed 200 units in sales, ranking fifth. Jiefang, Changzheng, Yutong, and Hongyan had similar sales figures, ranking sixth to ninth, respectively. Shaanxi Auto, Dayun, and FAW sold over 100 units of new energy tractors.

As the dual-carbon strategy continues to be promoted, transportation in sectors such as steel, coal power, and mining is rapidly transitioning to greener and low-carbon modes. New energy tractors, as one of the mainstream vehicle types for various transportation scenarios, are expected to see further demand growth.
